If there was ever a story that could make someone believe in fate, this one might just be it! It starts off with a fateful ride on a bus — the first shared together by a pair of best friends.

According to WEWS Cleveland, Jennifer Simmons is a Metro RTA operator in Akron, Ohio, and her best friend, Shirley Blanks, had never ridden inside her bus.

But after over 30 years of friendship, Shirley finally decided hop on. It turned out to be lucky she did, because she ended up being more than just her friend’s life.

Before all that, the ride started off pretty normally, according to WEWS. Jennifer drove the bus full of passengers, with Shirley inside, down the road. Then, the unthinkable happened.

“I got dizzy,” Jennifer said. “And I just knew something was going on. All I could think was, ‘I’ve got to keep my foot on this brake.”

WEWS reports that Jennifer got ill and quickly realized she couldn’t continue to drive.

That’s when Shirley leapt into action. “I was like, ‘Are you okay?'” she recalled. “And she was like, ‘Yeah.’ Then she passes out! But we are over to the side, safely. I’m like, ‘How do I get this bus in park?'”

In the end, Shirley managed to stop the bus and get everyone out. She then tended to her best friend, who spent a week in the hospital. Thankfully, Jennifer is doing fine and received clearance to drive again.

“God sent my guardian angel,” she said.
