Two words: pound cake! No, seriously. It’s my go-to dessert at all times.
And when it’s homemade? That only makes it a million times better.
That’s why when I came across this recipe for the “Best Butter Cake,” which includes a special and easy-to-make butter sauce, I knew I had to get my baking mitts ready.
- 2 cups sugar
- 1 cup butter, softened
- 4 eggs
- 1 Tbsp. vanilla extract
- 1 tsp. salt
- 1 tsp. baking powder
- ½ tsp. baking soda
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup buttermilk
Ingredients (butter sauce):
- ⅓ cup butter
- ¾ cup sugar
- 3 Tbsp. water
- 2 tsp. vanilla extract
First, preheat the oven to 325 °F. In the meantime, blend together the butter and sugar in a mixer. Carefully add the eggs, followed by the vanilla, salt, baking powder, and baking soda. Then alternate between adding flour and buttermilk until it becomes a thick batter. Once done, pour the mixture into a bundt cake pan and bake for one hour. (It’s worth the wait!)
As you let it cool down for 15 minutes, heat all butter sauce ingredients in a small saucepan until it starts to bubble.
Head back to the cake and poke small holes on the surface. Now it’s time for the best part: Start pouring the delicious sauce on top. Lastly, remove it from the pan, add some powdered sugar, and — voila — perfection!
It may sound like a long list of ingredients, and it’s a bit more involved than some of the quick and easy recipes we often share — but trust me, this delicious cake is actually quite simple to make! Just watch the video below and I’m sure you’ll want to try it, too.
