Bitty and Beau’s Coffee Shop in North Carolina isn’t like your average coffee shop. Yes, they serve delicious coffee and snacks to their customers, but it’s so, so much more than that.
Bitty and Beau’s is run by those with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Seventy percent of Americans with disabilities like this are unemployed. That number is huge, and so many of those people are entirely capable of holding a job down and maintaining some semblance of independence. This coffee shop gives people with disabilities their chance to shine, and to prove that they’re capable of so much more than many people think.
Trevor is one of the baristas at this wonderful establishment.
On April 25th, he was working a regular shift, going through his tasks just like any other work day.
Then, he sees one of his classmates and good friends walk through the door. He recognizes her right away, but then he sees that she’s carrying something big in her hands.
He puts aside his work for just a moment to greet her. That’s when he starts to read the message that she brought.
This moment is totally priceless. The pure joy from both of them is something that every young man and woman deserves. If only there were more people like this in the world, and more establishments like Bitty and Beau’s Coffee Shop.
