Former first daughter Barbara Pierce Bush got married this weekend to screenwriter Craig Coyne. Barbara is one of George W. Bush and Laura Bush’s twin daughters.
Barbara and Craig’s wedding was intimate and romantic; there were only 20 guests there! The ceremony was held at the Bush family compound in Maine. The two tied the knot in the backyard, which overlooks the ocean. The bride wore a stunning Vera Wang gown that complemented her slender figure.
The happy couple had quite the whirlwind romance — they were set up on a blind date last November and became a committed couple just a few weeks later.
They kept their relationship a secret from the public until their wedding, which took place only five weeks after they got engaged! Craig and Barbara were visiting family in Maine over the summer when Craig proposed. Barbara told People they were walking along the ocean when Craig got down on one knee. The location was almost exactly where her grandparents got engaged.
Jenna Bush Hager, Barbara’s twin sister, said that the couple chose to tie the knot in Maine so that their grandfather, George H. W. Bush, could attend the wedding.
The entire family was emotional during the wedding, and they all shared their reactions on Instagram. George W. Bush wrote, “Barbara is named for a unique and strong woman — and rightly so, because she is unique and strong. @laurawbush and I are so proud of our compassionate, daring, fierce, kind, intelligent, loving daughter. And we’re thrilled to welcome Craig Coyne to our family.”
Laura Bush said, “It was a wonderful day in Maine when Barbara married her love and Craig joined our family.”
And Jenna wrote, “Happy tears, heart exploding as I watched this beautiful girl get married in the place that means love and family. I’m so proud to be this beauty’s sister.”
What a wonderful day for the entire Bush family. Congratulations, Barbara and Craig!
