Have you ever been walking in a park or in the woods and seen a rock or stone you thought was particularly beautiful?

Maybe you even decided to pick the stone up and take it with you before continuing on your walk. Then, seemingly out of nowhere, bad things start to happen to you.

Sounds like the plot in a horror movie, doesn’t it?

In fact, this is apparently what happened to a woman known only as Maria.

According to the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, a letter signed by a woman named Maria arrived at their offices. And with the letter came a stone.

“I am returning this rock to its owner (Enchanted Rock),” this Maria began her letter.

According to Texas P&W, the woman probably visited the Enchanted Rock State Natural Area in Fredricksburg, Texas, and took a rock from the park. But that’s when things took a turn for the worse.

“I’ve had nothing but bad luck since I took it,” Maria continued. “Sorry I did it.”

And there it was: the stone in question — and apparently also a precursor to some very bad luck.
