For most mothers, the instinct to take care of their child is second nature.
A mother will flip a car off her baby if she needed to.
That drive to protect a child at any cost is strong. But it is not always the norm.
Whether human or an animal, some mothers reject their children. A mother Bengal tiger did not accept her twin cubs after their birth at Safaripark Zoo Stukenbrock in Germany.
When Peach and Pearl were born, their mother did not want them. Because of her detachment, one of the cubs became extremely sick.
Without the care and contact from their mother, the cubs surely wouldn’t last long.
So the zookeepers intervened and took the cubs away.
However, the cubs aren’t without a mom! One zookeeper brought them home with an idea: Why not introduce them to a surrogate mother, her dog Leon?
Surprisingly enough, the cubs warmed up to Leon and the dog has happily taken on the responsible role of keeping the cubs in check. They can play on Leon, but if they start acting up, she will show them who is boss!
If you enjoyed this, you will also love these tigers that have been best friends with a German shepherd since they were little fuzzy cubs!
