A 2-year-old Asiatic lion cub found herself in a sticky situation when she fell down a well near a village.

The young lion fell 80 feet into the well in India the night of July 7, 2017. She was discovered the next morning by villagers, who were concerned about the trapped animal but unable to help her on their own.

Thankfully, they were able to call the wildlife department, who arrived with a rescue team. The entire rescue operation (which took six hours!) was caught on film.

In a portion of the rescue shown in the video below, a forest official is lowered into the well. He fastens a rope into a lasso and uses it to pull the lion out. She is lifted from the well using that rope.

According to NDTV, wildlife officials believe the cub wandered away from her pride and accidentally took a tumble into the deep well.

She was rescued with no major injuries, and the department fully expects that she will be released back into the wild once she’s examined and deemed healthy.
