Cheryl and Dave Emmette spent three long years trying to expand their family through adoption. Last year, they finally received the call they had been waiting for.
A little girl, whom they named Josephine, was born four months early and only weighed a little over a pound. The couple instantly fell in love with her and knew they were meant to be her parents.
“Went to the hospital where she was in the NICU, and there’s just no questions. In our heart and our minds we knew she was our daughter,” Dave said.
While many couples are able to hold their baby and take her home, Cheryl and Dave had to wait for an agonizing three months before they could embrace their daughter. “She was in the NICU for 86 days,” Cheryl explained.
During that time, Josephine was hooked up to machines and had tubes all over her little face. The couple visited her every day for hours and hours and knew that their daughter would pull through. “She’s very feisty and a fighter,” Cheryl said. “She just keeps making progress.”
Finally, a year later, the couple is calling their new bundle of joy a Christmas miracle. Josephine was finally able to come home just days before Christmas. “Here we are a year later, and she’s just a beautiful baby girl,” Dave said. “She’s our Christmas miracle.”
