Elephants have been my favorite animal for as long as I can remember.

Not only are the large animals overwhelmingly beautiful, but they’re also impressively smart. Elephants are known to mourn their dead and they possess sharp memories.

It also doesn’t hurt that baby elephants are some of the cutest babies in the animal kingdom.

I still squeal every time I see a baby elephant holding onto her mama’s tail with her trunk, but this video may be even more adorable than that.

The baby elephant is learning how to use her trunk for nursing for the very first time at the Houston Zoo.

At just a few hours old, this adorable baby is already an impressive 300 pounds!

I keep watching this video trying to imagine what it’s like to realize you have a trunk — imagine figuring out that the big, long, swingy thing on your face is how you get food!

Amazingly, the mama elephant was pregnant with this adorable baby for two years before giving birth. After such a long time in the womb, I’m sure the outside world is an incredible experience for this sweet little baby.
