Cameras were allowed inside the crowded courtroom as Ashton Kutcher testified in the murder trial of an alleged serial killer charged with the murder of two women in the early 2000s.
Back in 2001, Ashley Ellerin was a 22-year-old fashion design student. She struck up a friendship with the actor, and Ashton invited her out on a date.
On February 21, 2001, Ashton said he called Ashley earlier in the day of their date from the rehearsal set of That ’70s Show, but she didn’t answer. And she didn’t answer the next few times he called.
In his trial testimony, Ashton said he arrived at Ashley’s house a couple hours later, but she didn’t answer her door.
“Knocked again. And once again, no answer,” he testified, according to the Los Angeles Times. “At this point, I pretty well assumed she had left for the night, and that I was late, and she was upset.”
Ashton, now 41, also described peering through her window before leaving and seeing what he thought were wine stains on the carpet.
Ashley’s roommate came home later and found her dead outside her bathroom; she was allegedly killed on the same night she was supposed to go out with the actor and entrepreneur.
Prosecutors have called the alleged murderer a “serial, psychosexual, thrill killer,” who is also accused of killing 32-year-old Maria Bruno in 2005.
