Ashlee Simpson is already a mom with the best of both worlds. The 35-year-old singer-songwriter has an 11-year-old son, Bronx Mowgli, whom she shares with ex-husband Pete Wentz.
She’s now married to Evan Ross, and they share 4½-year-old daughter Jagger Snow.
A few weeks ago, Ashlee and Evan announced that they were expecting another baby. It’s an exciting journey for the couple, who have talked about wanting a big family for some time. Now they’re sharing the moment when they found out the gender of their upcoming bundle of joy.
Ashlee shared a video to Instagram on Thursday showing their at-home gender reveal. She and Evan opted for a simple cake-cutting ceremony.
Family members watched along on video chat off-camera. The kids helped Ashlee cut into the cake and discovered they’ll be adding a boy to their brood later this year. The family’s adorable reactions show just how much excitement there is for their new addition.

On Thursday, Ashlee shared a video of their gender reveal. She and Evan opted for a simple cake reveal. Family and friends tuned in via video chat to take part in the moment. When it came time to cut the cake, Bronx and Jagger helped Ashlee and Evan out.
The room erupted into cheers as they cut into the cake and learned they’d be adding a baby boy to the family. Jagger wasn’t so thrilled, though. You see her look appalled and annoyed by the revelation in adorable little girl fashion.
Evan also shared the footage on his Instagram. “SO STOKED 2 MEET MY BABY BOY 🖤 as u can tell Jagger wanted a sis 😂,” he captioned the hilarious video.
In her own Instagram comments, Ashlee assured that Jagger came around to the idea after the initial shock: “haha Jagger had us laughing 🤣 🤣 she thought for sure it was a baby sister but she’s excited now!“
Ashlee showed off her bump a few days before the announcement. She was glowing in the quick video shared in her Instagram stories. “Ashlee has been wanting another baby for a long time,” a source told People magazine. “They always wanted a big family.”
Ashlee and Evan were friends for 10 years before they started dating in July 2013. The two went public with the relationship after a month together. In January 2014, they announced their engagement. They got married that August.
Evan gushed about their family life after the birth of Jagger in 2015. “The biggest thing in this world is in love. I’m so in love,” Evan told Entertainment Tonight.
“I love my daughter, I love my wife. She’s given me the best gift in the world. I’m very lucky.”
Ashlee and Evan have an excellent co-parenting relationship with Pete. Pete has two children with girlfriend Meagan Camper: 5-year-old Saint and 1-year-old Marvel.
“He’s such an amazing father,” Evan said about Pete on an episode of Watch What Happens Live. “I grew up in a family where I had a lot of different siblings from, you know. I grew up in a big family and I think it’s a beautiful thing.”
“I think that for me, my relationship with Pete has been amazing. He’s an amazing father,” Evan continued. “He knows that I love his son very much, but it’s his son.”
For the blended family, being on the same page about these boundaries has been important to their success.
“It could go all different ways,” Evan once told Us Weekly, with Ashlee chiming in that their family “lucked out.”
“I think the fact that there is a lot of respect amongst all of us. That makes it easier. And we’re all really close friends. It’s easy, we got really lucky with that.“
Pete has also sang the praises of their co-parenting situations. “I think it’s important to listen and to give people balance,” Pete said of getting their situation right. “She’s [also] a great mom. A great person. She’s a good balance for me.”
