The employees at a Goodwill in Thomasville, North Carolina, are no strangers to a variety of donations coming through their doors.
Jessica Cranford is used to processing all kinds of things at Goodwill.
“We get knickknacks, different clothes,” she said. “Little bits and pieces of jewelry.”
Well, a recent discovery truly did not fit any of those categories!
Jessica was working when a coworker came to her with an odd find.
“I think his words were, ‘You’re never going to believe what I found,’” she said.
Her coworker handed her a strange bottle. The label read “Dad’s Ashes,” and above that was the name “Missy.”
Jaime Eichorn, vice president of marketing and communications for Goodwill Industries of Northwest North Carolina, had the ashes examined at a cremation center. In the center’s expert opinion, the ashes indeed were human remains.
“He doesn’t belong here,” Jessica said, referring to the cremated ashes. “He needs to be with his family.”
Her sister posted a picture of the bottle on Facebook with details about it.
Nearly 3,000 people have shared the post, but no one has come forward to claim the ashes.
If you or anyone you know has any information regarding whom the ashes may belong to, please feel free to contact Goodwill’s local corporate office at (336) 714-3039 or via email to firstname.lastname@example.org.
