Happy birthday to Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor!
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s little guy is officially a 1-year-old.
As well-wishes poured in for the youngest of Queen Elizabeth’s great-grandchildren, his mom and dad offered royal fans a special treat.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex shared an adorable video showing Archie enjoying his favorite book. The video is also for a good cause. Meghan and Archie’s reading of Duck! Rabbit!, filmed by Harry, was made in support of Save With Stories. The initiative was started in the United States by actors Jennifer Garner and Amy Adams in March.
It’s in partnership with Save the Children and No Kid Hungry to provide families staying at home with entertaining stories while raising money to provide children with food and educational materials.
Watching Archie wiggle around in Meghan’s lap as he hears his favorite story is a pure joy. It shows how much the little guy has grown since we last got a glimpse of him around New Year’s. It also shows Harry and Meghan’s continued commitment to supporting charities with their work.
It’s hard to believe that Harry and Meghan’s little bundle of joy is already a year old. Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor celebrates his first birthday on May 6. It’s a momentous occasion for any family. For Harry and Meghan, Archie has been the bright spot in an otherwise complicated year.
Everyone’s been wondering how the couple would mark Archie’s special day since they’re no longer on social media. This morning, we got our answer. Harry and Meghan shared a sweet video of Meghan reading Archie his favorite book!
The video was shot by Harry at the family’s Los Angeles home. Archie sits on Meghan’s lap, happily squirming and listening to Duck! Rabbit! You can tell that the story is a family favorite by the way you can hear Meghan and Harry both quacking to make Archie laugh.
The sound of the two parents cheering at the end of the video while Archie giggles is truly the sweetest thing. It goes to show that despite all the hardships Harry and Meghan have been through, no one can steal their happiness. In a world where so much is uncertain, the love of a family can’t be touched.
Not only was the video some good chicken soup for our weary souls, but it was also for a good cause. Save With Stories was started by Jennifer Garner and Amy Adams in partnership with Save the Children and No Kid Hungry. Their goal is to provide families with some entertaining, educating reads on video while raising money for food and educational supplies for children impacted by COVID-19.
Archie’s also getting birthday love from across the pond. Kensington Palace posted a photo of Archie and the family from his christening. “Wishing Archie a very happy first birthday today! 🎈,” the caption reads.
Clarence House shared a sweet photo of Charles, Harry, and Archie. “A very Happy Birthday to Archie, who turns one today,” the caption reads. “This photo of Archie and his grandfather was taken following his christening in July 2019.”
Last but not least were some well-wishes from Archie’s great-grandparents. “Happy Birthday to Archie Mountbatten-Windsor who is celebrating his 1st birthday today! 🎈🎉,” the Royal Family accounts shared. “Archie is The Queen’s eighth great-grandchild.”
Some commenters on the royal-affiliated Instagram accounts bemoaned the lack of an official new photo. Since Harry and Meghan are no longer senior royals, it’s unclear what the rules would be on sharing official portraits. For now, this video is just what we needed.
The last time we got a glimpse at Archie was around New Year’s. In a video that shared all of the couple’s favorite moments of 2019, a new picture of Harry and Archie bundled up in Canada was shared. Harry and the family were living on Vancouver Island during their break from royal duties at the end of the year.
A few days before, we were treated to the Sussexes’ first Christmas card as a family of three. Archie is seen crawling toward the camera with a look of fascination in his eyes. Behind him, Harry and Meghan are watching him with smiles on their faces.
Harry and Meghan moved to Los Angeles as concerns about the health crisis around the globe started to mount. They’ve since been isolated in their new home. “They spend their evenings at home as a family. They haven’t had any visitors,” a source told People magazine.
Harry opened up about what it’s like at home during a recent charity Zoom call.
“There’s a h*ll of a lot of positives that are happening at the same time and being able to have family time — so much family time — that you almost think, ‘Do I feel guilty for having so much family time?’ You’ve got to celebrate those moments where you are just on the floor rolling around in hysterics,” he commented.
Wherever the couple has decided to lay their heads, they’ve made sure Archie is thriving. Los Angeles is no different. “He is super active! He is definitely keeping them busy and brings a lot of joy,” a source noted.
“He’s doing great. Meghan and Harry are really happy with Archie. They are happy about what’s ahead for them.”
