Childbirth is a joyous and miraculous event. A new baby can bring so much happiness — and the same goes for newborn animals as well.

There are few things that are as adorable as a baby elephant sticking close to its mother or a baby deer taking its first steps. As with human babies, it truly is a miracle when these creatures are brought into the world.

So when I saw these absolutely stunning and surprising photos of wild animals still in the womb, I had to take a closer look.

These pictures were taken for a special presentation on animals in the womb for National Geographic. Each of these beautiful photographs captures a moment before childbirth, as a soon-to-be mother anxiously awaits the arrival of her baby.

And while these photos are gorgeous, I couldn’t always guess which wild animal it was from the picture. In fact, I was only able to guess half of them, while the other half had me stumped!

Can you guess which animal it is just from a picture of them in the womb? Scroll through below to see how well you do.
