Animal shelter volunteer worker Theresa was in shock as she read a note attached to one of the shelter animals.

She didn’t know that piece of paper would be a note she would remember forever.

“I was really thinking the vet tech needed help with a dog that maybe somebody abandoned and left a note,” Theresa said. “The note said, ‘Will you marry me? Teddy,’ in parentheses, ‘(not this dog).'” The video of the moment is incredibly sweet but also a tad bit humorous.

The proposal went viral, with more than one thousand views online and counting. “For me, this shelter is a really special place … so it’s nice that this has become an even bigger part of our history,” Theresa said.

The newly engaged couple do hope their special moment will touch others in a way in which more people will want to become involved with their local animal shelters. “In the back areas there are so many cats and dogs that need families,” Theresa said. “The staff truly cares. It’s hard for them to get enough help.”

This story is very touching, and hopefully, it will encourage others to become active volunteers with their local animal shelters. Wishing this couple nothing but the best on their journey.
