Dog Rescued From A Dismal Fate Makes A Tail-Wagging Recovery

In my opinion, the existence of dogs confirms that true goodness exists in this world.

Humans might start wars and cause destruction, but any dog, unless badly treated as a pup, is just a beacon of sweetness and light.

Dogs, big, small, and every size in between, are just wonderful at exuding unconditional love and loyalty, saying “I love you” with every tail way and snuggle!

Unfortunately, not all humans love dogs back. In fact, some people treat dogs (and all animals) with truly chilling levels of cruelty and indifference. All too often, these stories end in tragedy, but every now and then, there’s a glimmer of hope.

That’s exactly what happened when a father and son driving through the desert outside of the Chilean city of Antofagasta spotted a tar pit, which appeared to have a creature moving inside of it.

They got out of the car to get a closer look, then realized the unthinkable truth…

Please note, the following images contain content that may be disturbing to some viewers.

In the desert outside of Antofagasta, several naturally occurring tar pits dot the landscape, filling up with sticky black tar. A man named Jhonny Alquinta and his son drove past one of the tar pits, and happened to notice that it looked like something was moving in the muck.

Upon closer inspection, they realized that the “something” was actually a very terrified dog, struggling to keep her head above the tar. With care and lots of effort, the two men managed to pull the petite creature out of the muck. They concluded that she had been abandoned and left for dead.

Out of the pit, she was covered from head-to-toe in the sticky, viscous black goop, and was clearly exhausted from fighting for her life. No one knows how long she was there for, or how much longer she would have lasted without help.

Father and son helped her as best they could, but knew she needed to go straight to a vet for more help. They brought her to Puppies’ Vet, a nearby clinic, where the staff immediately got the pooch into the tub to get started on cleaning her up. Staffers immediately dubbed her Alquitrán, the Spanish word for tar.

It took some time to get her cleaned up, but with lots of works and effort, the grooming and veterinary staff were able to remove most of the tar from little Alquitrán, helping to protect her from the toxic chemicals in the ooze.

A few baths later, and they had her almost entirely clean, but continued bathing her to make sure none of the chemicals were sticking to her skin and harming her further. The staff put her on medicine for a skin infection, and fluids and plenty of food for the muscle exhaustion she experienced trying to survive. She has made a remarkable recovery.

And the best news of all? After working hard to get Alquitrán clean and healthy again, the clinic was also able to find a new, loving, fur-ever home for the little one. Now she’s happy, healthy, and safe again with her new people!
