The love between a mother and her children is one of the strongest bonds that can exist – and that love certainly exists among animals as well.
As with this tiny orphan kitten who was adopted by a new family, love is absolutely critical for creatures of all different shapes and sizes.
And when I saw this story about four abandoned baby kittens that were longing for a mother’s touch, my heart completely melted.
A box of newborn kittens recently turned up on the doorstep of the Mill Road Vet Clinic in Whangarei, New Zealand. The kittens had been dumped there mysteriously, without any sign of their mother.

The workers at the Mill Road Vet Clinic received quite a surprise when they discovered a box of four abandoned baby kittens on their doorstep. They posted on their website that they found "3 boys and a girl, tabby & white, and a gorgeous black tabby, about 3-4 weeks old. Of course, we all fell in love with them."
Unfortunately, there was no sign of their mother or their owner. The clinic wrote, "They were too young to lap milk, so it was a labor of love, bottle feeding four orphan kittens through the night!"
But the next day, a miracle occurred. "The next morning, we noticed a tabby cat hanging around our front door, trying to sneak in every time a client arrived." Why was there a mysterious cat on the doorstep, and why was it so determined to come inside?
"When we realized she wasn't going to go away, we picked her up and discovered she was a nursing mom. Then the penny dropped! Sure enough, we introduced her to the 'orphan' kittens, and there was a very happy reunion!"
This incredible mother cat had absolutely refused to give up looking for her babies. "Presumably, she had been in the box too and escaped before we arrived for work. She'd probably been prowling around all night looking for her kidnapped kittens!"
The kittens and their devoted mother are bonding wonderfully, and their story has received quite a bit of media attention. The clinic wrote, "We posted the story on our Facebook page, and it was shared around and seen by 15,000 people." That number has since grown as news outlets have been reporting on the new feline family.
And the good news doesn't end there for this mom and her babies. "The whole family is now being fostered by a family member of one of our vets. He's recently lost his own cat, so the kittens are a great distraction. The kittens will be available to be adopted into good homes at around eight weeks of age."
This mother's love for her babies was so strong that she refused to give up on them. The clinic posted, "I guess we all love a good story with a happy ending!"
This mother’s devotion proves just how important the mother-child bond truly is. Her story is an inspiration to families around the world!
