It’s that time of year when just about everyone you know is on a family vacation. How do you know? Well, because your Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Snapchat, TikTok, MishMosh (OK, I made that last one up … I think!) are filled with glorious cruise ship dinners, five-star hotels, and white sandy beaches.

It’s tough to take when you feel like you’re the only one using the dog to stay warm because you don’t make the kind of money to enjoy a 10-day all-inclusive luxury vacation, especially when you’re a parent.

Vacationing with kids can be enormously expensive. Not only do you have to pay your own way, but between airfare and hotel rooms big enough to accommodate families, forget about it! The truth is, many families simply don’t have the budget for epic vacations every year.

But if you’ve got the urge to travel and show your kids some amazing places, sometimes it just takes a bit of research and planning. You might just find that it’s definitely possible to plan a fun and fulfilling family trip if you’re looking in the right places.

Just because you don’t make quite as much as the rest of the world (or as the social media world would have you believe), that doesn’t mean you’re destined to sit around your house until summer when you can fill up a baby pool and hang out in the backyard with your feet in it. There are all kinds of budget family vacations to go on that take you a bit farther away than your backyard.

Here are a few trips you may actually be able to afford:
